What is chili crisp?
Your new favorite condiment!
Chili crisp sauces are traditionally made with chili peppers, aromatics, and spices infused in oil for a perfectly crunchy, crispy, tingly, flavorful kick. Chili crisp has roots in Sichuan cuisine, but is universally delicious on any dish.
We developed our olive oil-based recipe over years of feedback from friends, family, and neighbors. When we made the first batch, we didn’t think it would grow up to have its own website, but here we are! Thank you for being part of the Big Spoon fam.

from 154 reviewsI was searching for the best chili crisp and I found it! I've purchased chili crisp from Amazon, at my local grocery store, and from other companies, but none of them were what I was looking for. One day, I drove to the Sebastopol Farmers Market because I heard there was a small local business selling chili crisp. When I got there it was a little wet out, so I didn't stay for the samples they were offering. I just bought two jars of chili crisp and headed home. As soon as I arrived at home, I made an omelet and I put a little chili crisp on top. It was so delicious with just the right amount of heat. I had to scoop a bunch more on so I could have enough chili crisp with every bite. That crunch of the shallots adds to the enjoyable factor. This chili crisp is the best one of all the other ones I have tried and I know I can stop searching. You definitely need to get some and try it!!!
Hello fellow Chili Sauce admirers!! My name is Pam and I’m here to inform you that TBD is highly recommended by me - a retired 70 plus years young and I love their flagship sauce the best!! I’m just about to order myself up some more, and really - you should too if you adore crisp sauces.
Also - if you haven’t heard they sadly have to alter their current moniker and if you are able to make a wee donation to them at https://www.gofundme.com/f/big-spoon-sauce-co-needs-to-rebrand-to-continue-operations - I’m sure they’d be tickled garlic scapes!!
Just so ya all know, I just made a wee donation myself and further - I’ve never met these wonderful entrepreneurs nor have any holdings (unless you count when I’m holding one of their jars to put on nearly everything)), I just wanted to do a small part. That’s just me.
I've been a longtime customer, and I can honestly say that this chili crisp is the best I've ever had. You can really taste the local flavors, and the love that's put in these small batches. They are a now a weekly staple!
Love this stuff! Have bought in a few places around SoCo! So far, used very simply, like on brown rice+veggie+egg bowls, but will experiment with more options. Will gift and buy the larger size next time! I'd be curious to know where the ingredients are sourced, esp. the olive oil and peanuts, and if any are organically grown (certified or not.) Thanks for making such a tasty treat!
Perfectly mild spice, wonderful black bean sauce flavor. Wonderful with pho, ramen, and any asian style noodle dish. Their other sauces are super tasty as well.
Despite an impressive collection of jars at home, I don't think I can ever own enough of this stuff. The club membership is easy, shipped with care every time and I love the newsletter/recipes included. The jars are recyclable and Big Spoon also does re-use! Love access to the seasonal flavors as well, I hope to keep an accurate library of them all through the years. Can't recommend their chili crisp enough. Local ingredients and a labor of love from my Sonoma County neighbors.
I love how balanced this chili crisp is and you’ll definitely want to eat it by the spoonful. It’s my go-to now. I won’t buy any other brand.
Tried different sauces from big spoon and this one is the BEST!!! So flavorful and multilayered. Will keep ordering ❤️❤️❤️
We just ran out of our last jar of chili crisp, and could not wait to re-stock. This is “Hands Down” the best chili crisp we’ve tasted and our pantry would not be complete without it. Please keep up the great work!
Comfortable and cute. I bought two hats. My daughter and I live on the other side of the country. We talk up Big Spoon Sauce all the time. I give it to friends. We are hoping for extra style points for repping a small company from Occidental, California.
I really enjoy this over steamed vegetables and also potstickers.
There's so much flavor in a single bite. Use this chili crisp on everything and anything you can think of. Every sauce is delicious, but my go-to is the original, although that seasonal main squeeze is a must-have on the shelf. Grab it while you can!
Stylish, comfortable, an opportunity to rep an amazing and local small business? Yes to all. Last Saturday I went to brunch wearing this hat. Before the food even came out, my wife stole it from me and I carried on hatless and could not get it back the rest of the day. I clearly need another one. Picture for evidence. The hat is too nice, get one.
Dragon's Booty will lift the roof of my mouth. So I mix it with Magic Beans, heating up the rich spicy crunchy sweet beans. In spring I mix it with Main Squeeze. In summer, Green Gems. A subscription is a must, to get all the flavors. I would eat cardboard if it had Big Spoon's chili crisp on it. The newsletter in the subscription box is a beautiful bonus. The recipes are fun and different. Everyone needs the miso-caramel ice cream sauce, mixed with the Sweet Cheeks seasonal.
Absolutely love this chili crisp! All the different flavors in the club package are delicious. My favorite is the Main Squeeze and then Dragon's Booty, but they are all SO GOOD. I eat it on everything: eggs, avocado toast, Indian food, pasta, pizza - and more! It is life changing. For me, the Little Dipper club box perfectly lasts three months - and then I get the next one!

From the Press Democrat: Occidental couple’s recipe for chili crisp sauce has a devoted fan base
"For those unfamiliar with chili crisp, a few whiffs of Bender frying shallots while Chan pours a complex blend of spices into a large bowl, readying it for a rendezvous with the sizzling-hot shallot oil, will entice you to make Big Spoon Sauce Co.’s acquaintance." -- Jennifer Graue, January 2023
